A Clinical Study on Gastric Cancer


Abstract
Gastric cancer is the most frequent cancer and leading cause of death from cancers in Korea. Author could make a clinical analysis of 387 cases of gastric cancers which were operated in the Dept. of Surgery, Pusan National university Hospital

1981 to Dec. 1989. Ratio of male to female was 2.1 : 1, and the peak incidence of age was 6 th decade. Macroscopically, Borrman type III was the most frequent lesion(45.0%). and then type II(26.5%). IV(9.8%). Incidence of the location of primary
tumors
of gastric cancers were 52.0% in the lower third, 21.2% in the uper third, and the incidence of lymph node metastasis in relation to the location of primary tumor were 61.0% in the uper third, 50.2% in the lower third, and overall incidence of
lymph
node metastasis was 55.6%. Among the gastric cancers, the cases of histologic serosal invasion of primary tumor were 47.8% of them and of muscular invasion were 17.3%. The incidence of lymph node metastasis in relation to histologic level of
tumor
invasion was 100% in cases with othe organ invasion. 77.3% in serosal invasion, and 65.5% in subserosal invasion. According to the extent of lymph node dissections, systemic dissection including paraaortic lymph node dissection and nonsystemic
dissection. The 3 year-survial rate was significantly different. One was 87.2%, the other was 78.9% in stage II, and was 57.1%, the other was 42.8% in stage III.
